Scotland is known for many things; its rainy weather, its strong whiskey, and its unique bagpipe music. However, one thing that often goes overlooked is the majestic, rugged beauty of one of its other “national treasures”… the Highland Cow! As a Scot myself, I’ve made a few trips back to the “motherland” and have always been amazed by these hairy, and somewhat goofy, animals, but always find the site of them, framed by the rolling Scottish hills and highlands, to be breathtaking. If you take a trip through the Outer Hebrides, you can often see them moseying along the side of the road, perfectly content to pose for a quick snap.
