Learning how to bake is really opening my eyes to the culinary world. I am getting braver and feeling more confident in the kitchen, too. Today, for example, I was making pancakes and I wanted to have some fruit right along with it!
At my house there is almost always strawberries in the fridge, so I decided to step out of my comfort zone and make a strawberry compote I’d seen it done a bunch of times on The Food Network and all you need are the desired fruit or berry, a citrus fruit and some sugar.
What you’ll need:
- 1 cup of strawberries, each berry cut in half
- The juice of one orange
- 2 tbs of sugar
What to do:
Step one: Place strawberries, orange juice and sugar in sauce pan over medium heat.
Step two: Stir mixture and crush strawberries to release juices continue mixing for about five-minutes.
Step three: Remove from heat and serve!
This super simple strawberry compote is great for topping on pancakes or waffles. It can be used right from the pan or set aside to cool and be reheated. The compote and be kept in the fridge for five to seven days (and it’s totally okay to sneak a few spoonfulls right from the container).
