Unfortunately, I don’t have photo evidence of my cut, but suffice it to say – I feel like I’ve lost a few pounds to the cold floor of that hair salon, and I’ve never been happier.
How did this transpire? A long-haired gal (me) called up a hair cutting gal (Colleen) looking for a good trim. I lucked out: Waves, Colleen’s salon, was working hand in hand (a haircut pun?) with two lovely ladies whom had recently completed the annual Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, working their butts (and legs!) off to complete their donation goals. The 2014 Ride had a total of 5,212 participants who raised an epic (and record) $20 million. I was given instruction to bring cash, and a camera!
Brittany and Christine Musseau-Drover, a mother and daughter duo (superheroes, really) rode from Toronto to Niagara on a two-day trek, camping and riding all for the incredible cause of raising funds for the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The 200KM Ride was not easy, and I commend these two for their incredible spirits and absolutely infectious drive for a cause that hits home. Cancer, in all shapes and sizes, has left families devastated, children without parents, parents without children, and is an unfortunate common thread between each and every one of us humble human beings. We all know someone, a family, or another human being whose world has been knocked over by the C word. So to see such a happy, bubbly team doing what they can to raise funding, and awareness, left me feeling truly humbled and grateful.
After my appointment, there was one final appointment scheduled for the day, and it was a little more than just a trim – Ellen, in the hot seat, transformed from long-locked to Jennifer Lawrence-inspired in just over an hour.
Considering I had made my hair appointment on a whim, I am so thankful that planets aligned and I was able to contribute 100 per cent of the cost of my vanity to such an important cause. Colleen, hairstylist extraordinaire, had donated endless hours of lopping locks; you don’t see that every day.
Thank you to Colleen, Waves Salon, and Brittany and Christine for being impeccable people and taking time to put money and effort where it counts. My freshly-cut, happy head is truly grateful.
