Still trying to figure out what to do for Mother’s Day? Every year, we all try to show our moms how much we love them with gifts, fancy dinners or flowers. Why not just spend the day together, instead?
Over many years, my mom has only ever asked for one thing: To spend the day with her family. Based off my favourite Mother’s Day activities, I’ve complied a list of different plans you can make with your mom this weekend.
1. Take a trip to a local food market
Now that the weather is actually staying above freezing, there are always farmers’ markets waiting for us to enjoy them. In Toronto, the St. Lawrence Market offers a wide variety of fresh produce: From fresh fruits and vegetables to delicious cheese, meats and breads, to condiments, to flowers, to jewelry and to clothing, the St. Lawrence Market can be a great way to spoil your mom.
2. Experience new wines
Take a road trip to the wine country. St. Catharines is a fantastic spot for wine lovers. Take a tour of the various wineries while tasting different flavours and local brands. St. Catharines, in Ontario’s Niagara Region, is a great way to find new favourites while making new memories with your number one mom!
3. Explore the Niagara Region
Both Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake can make for the perfect family day out. Whether you are spending your day as a tourist in the heart of Niagara Falls or perusing all the small boutiques in Niagara-on-the-Lake, a day trip to these two places will give mom the chance to relax and spoil herself. Plus, there are a lot of great photo opps along the way. The scenery is gorgeous and the food is delicious!
4. Do something she loves, together
If your mom is like mine, then she loves finding new things in old places. Take a road trip to an unknown destination. Get in your car and drive. You will be surprised at what you’ll come across. My mom loves to stop at small antique shops to find hidden treasures whenever we go out for Sunday drives.
5. Treat her the ol’ fashion way
It’s mom’s day to pamper herself. What better way than to take her to a spa to rejuvenate? Surprise her with a manicure and pedicure, a massage or even just a relaxing day in a new pair of PJs. If money is not an option, create your own home spa. Grab her favourite nail polish and spoil her yourself. Nothing says bonding like an at-home manicure.
6. Learn about art and history together
Check out the new exhibits at the Royal Ontario Museum or the Art Gallery of Ontario, both in Toronto. Take a trip to your local art gallery or museum, even, as most communities have them! Your mom will appreciate the thoughtful day out that will prove to be different (in only the best way) than most Sundays.
No matter what you decide to do, your mom will appreciate you for spending the day with her. What are your plans this Mother’s Day?
