Cooking with Kaaleen: Apple dumplings

In my last few posts, I have been focusing on healthy eating. But lately, I’ve been craving sweets! Now, I usually go for chocolate, but when it came time to create this week’s Cooking with Kaaleen, I was looking something different.

I wanted something easy and sweet – anything to squash the sweet cravings. Then, I found an easy recipe on Pinterest – Apple dumplings!

Never heard of them? Me neither. But trust me when I say they will squash the sweet cravings after the first bite.

What you’ll need:

  • 2 Granny Smith apples
  • 2 cans of crescent rolls
  • 1 cup of butter
  • 1 and 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1 cup of lemon lime soda (Sprite, 7 Up, Mountain Dew)
  • Cinnamon to taste

What to do:

Step one: Wash, peel and core apples. Then, slice the apples into as many pieces as there are crescent rolls. For example, eight apple slices for eight pieces of pastry).

Step two: Roll each apple slice into a piece of pastry.

Step three: Place the rolls into a greased 9″ x 13″ pan.

Step four: Melt butter in a new pan and add the sugar, lightly stir together.

Step five: Add the vanilla to the butter and sugar mixture.

Step six: Pour mixture over the rolls.

Step seven: Pour soda around edges of the pan.

Step eight: Sprinkle rolls with cinnamon.

Step nine: Bake the rolls at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve the rolls with ice cream and drizzle the excess sauce over the rolls. The recipe serves eight people, or if those cravings are too much to handle, you can have all eight yourself. Trust me, you will not be sorry when you try this recipe!
